Tom Carmean

CEO and Head of Strategy and Development

Coach Carmean is a former professional lacrosse player who spent 12 years playing in the pro ranks with the Boston Blazers, New York Saints and the Bridgeport Barrage. He was also the Offensive Coordinator for the Charlotte Hounds for four seasons. As a professional player he was awarded All-Pro status 5 times and was recently listed by Inside Lacrosse as #10 in the top 30 American players to play professional indoor lacrosse. He is an inductee of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame, New England Chapter, as well the Western Massachusetts Chapter. Prior to playing professionally, Carmean played for the University of Massachusetts where he was a 3x All-American, garnering 1st Team All American honors in his senior year.

With a successful coaching career spanning three decades, including three years at his alma mater UMass as assistant coach and offensive coordinator, an 11 year position as Head Coach at Amherst College, followed by 8 seasons as the Head Coach of Guilford College. With an M.A. in English, Carmean also spent a number of years teaching and working as an administator at both independent and public high schools.

With extensive experience training and evaluating high school athletes and developing younger players, Carmean Co-founded the widely successful Elite 180 recruiting camp which matches top level students with elite academic colleges. As the CEO and Head of Strategy and Development at Skyward Performance and Consulting, Carmean approaches the recruiting process holistically, understanding that athletic skill is only one facet in the complex nexus of performance, longevity, mental, emotional and academic fulfilment and support.
